How We Work

Step One: First Meeting

If you are interested in talking to Craig Sawyer Designs about a project, we are willing to do an initial consultation at no charge. If your project involves remodeling, or interior design then this first visit will probably entail coming out to your home, or business. If the project involves new construction then this first meeting is held at the Craig Sawyer Designs offices. This first meeting gives you a chance to see if we have the right kind of ideas and skills to help you with your project. During this first visit you will be shown pictures of Craig Sawyer Designs’ previous work and you will be able to discuss all aspects of working with a designer. It the initial consultation require over 1.5 hrs. of travel then there will be a charge for the initial consultation.  To set up an appointment please call 206-286-8443.

Step Two: Getting A Proposal

After the first interview you will receive a letter summarizing your meeting along with additional information about Craig Sawyer Designs. If you are interested in seeing what the design fees for your project will be you can request a free design services proposal. For most proposals you will need to meet again with Craig Sawyer Designs to talk about your project further. For the proposal we will need to get from you four basic pieces of information:

  1. What style do you want the project to be?
  2. What is your program for the project, or what do you want to accomplish?
  3. What is the budget for the project?
  4. What specific design services do you want from Craig Sawyer Designs?

With this information Craig Sawyer Designs will be able to give you a bid on design services for your project. If you have trouble answering any of these questions, we can provide assistance as needed.

Step Three: Starting Work

If you like the proposal and want to proceed with starting the project you will need to enter into a design services contract with Craig Sawyer Designs. This contract outlines the responsibilities of both parties in the job ahead.

Payments.  Most design fees are paid off in a series of 3 or 4 payments. These payments coincide with phases in the projects design such as: starting the project, the first presentation, starting the working drawings, the completion of the working drawings and specifications, and the end of the project. The largest payments are made at the beginning of the project. Projects done on a purely hourly basis are billed monthly.  For large projects, a monthly payment schedule will be used.

Scheduling.  Since Craig Sawyer Designs usually works with a backlog, so it is unusual  that they can start a major project right away. However, they can make the initial consultations and provide proposals while you are waiting for the next available opening. Clients are usually taken on a first come, first served basis.
